"Only the greatest horses leave this world with half a tail"

While this adage is true, many great horses are still here with us!  Whether you have saved a beloved horse's tail, or would like a design from a current horse, there are many beautiful options.  Any pet can be remembered in a gorgeous design. Anything you would like to hold close to you can be made into a design, a lock of a baby's hair, a tooth, cremains, pet hair.  If it's special to you, I will make it beautifully special to hold and remember.

Collecting and mailing horse tail hair is very easy.  Put an elastic around the hair (please don't braid it, this wastes hair when I undo it) put in a ziploc bag & pop it in an envelope. No need to wash it, I have made a mild shampoo that preserves the shine.

Most items will be completed in 2 weeks or less from when your hair is received.  Sterling Silver rings require 3 to 4 weeks.

Any unused hair, or ashes will be returned with your order unless you specific otherwise. You can mail hair, ashes, etc by to: Horsehair Creations, Box 1996, 100 Mile House, B.C. V0K2E0   I will let you know as soon as it arrives.

As many horses as you like can be combined for your item.  I have combined up to 11 different horses' tail hair for a design!

Of course if you have saved mane hair from a beloved lost horse, I will work with what you have. While mane hair is beautiful for tassel items and pendants, unfortunately I cannot make anything braided with it as it frays incredibly due the huge taper, the ends will work their way out of a braid eventually. I can however, braid mane to insert into sterling silver rings and pendants, as these items will hold the braid in place. If this is what you have saved, I can make something beautiful to have a part of your horse with you as well as any pet hair.  Please message me anytime with any questions, special requests, different size variations, custom orders

I was gifted this beautiful keepsake made by Karen for my birthday of my last & favorite show horse. It truly means more than I can express and the craftsmanship is gorgeous.

If there is something you don't see on one item but is featured on another, no problem! I can mix it up for you, change findings, colors, beads, closures, just let me know, I will do it! If you own a special bead or charm you want on your design, message me. Any special requests as to how you want your hair mixed, different sizes, anything, again, just ask, I will try to accommodate any request if it's possible.

Everything is guaranteed, if it doesn't fit, I can adjust it, if something breaks with normal & tear, I will replace it. The only items I cannot adjust for fit are rings and special order sterling silver cuffs, so be very accurate when ordering these items.

HOW TO COLLECT HAIR FROM A TAIL SO IT'S NOT NOTICABLE

  • Brush your horse's tail so it is relatively knot free. Locate the lowest point of the tailbone inside the tail. This is where the hairs are less likely to be damaged and are much more smooth & shiny. We want smooth, shiny hair next to our skin for jewelry!
  • Grab a small section of hair, about 1/4 of what you will need, however, you can grab more if your horse has a thick tail, as you will be repeating this process until you have cut enough hair. Doing smaller, more numerous cuttings is the best method to make it appear unnoticeable that anything has been removed, honestly! One of my horses has a very sparse tail and I have collected several times from him. His tail appears no less thinner, in fact it started to grow better, yay!
  • Pull that section out to the side and cut as close as you can to the tailbone. Repeat these steps but in a slightly different spot on the lower tailbone, until you have enough. Put an elastic band around the top & put it in a ziploc bag. No washing, no braiding, no nothing, the less you handle it, the easier it is for me to work with.
  • Put the ziploc bag in an envelope and mail it, regular mail works great or Xpresspost if you want a quicker delivery with a tracking number.

Amount of hair needed for most braided items: Twice as long as the item it will be braided into & as thick as a pinky finger when it is in an elastic, or a fine marker width:

Hair for rings can be the width of a pen, and at least 7 inches longs or 16 inches if woven. Earrings require the same amount.

Pendants and other items in resin can use any amount. Remember, if you send a small amount of hair for a keychain, you will get a very small keychain, tassel, etc., so send as much as you can, anything leftover will be returned.

If you are unsure if you have enough hair for the design you are wanting, message me. I do not offer refunds on custom orders, but I will return your hair and give you a credit for future items or offer to supplement your hair with my private collection.

If you are unsure of your ring size, please go to a jewelry store and get sized. I do have ring sizers which I can mail out to you, or if you have a non valuable ring that fits you, include this with your hair as I can use a sizing mandrel to determine the fit, I will return it with your order.

If you are unsure of the bracelet size, put a piece of string around your wrist and cut where it meets. Include this with your hair .

All unused hair will be returned with your order unless you specify otherwise.

Mail your hair, fur, ashes, etc to:

Chose a size an inch larger than your actual wrist size. *If this is a gift, please contact me about adding an extender for clasp type bracelets (magnet closing bracelets cannot be extended). About Us

Karen

I am always so honored to create something from a horse's precious hair.  Horse hair, pet fur, ashes is a very personal thing with memories, stories, and many feelings connected.  I am always striving to collaborate with silversmiths, jewelry metal designers and others in the industry to create exclusive findings to pair with horse hair as well as other affordable, but quality items.  If my group of barn girls approve and passes their durability tests, a new design is introduced.  Every piece created is special not because it is adorned with diamonds, gold or silver, it's special because it came from your beloved animal.   I try to make many designs affordable so everyone can have something special, stylish and quality, custom made.
